The Rotaract Club of Tamale, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tamale has committed to a 10 year plan for tree planting in Ghana with their first year target of planting 100,000 trees to the Tamale and Tolon District cities.
The club canvased the community and in line with a statewide initiative in tree planting have defined the goals for the planting to:
a. Protect the environment
b. Aid in the physical abatement of houses from wind destruction
c. Encourage economic incentives for jobs, fruit production and controlled wood farming
d. Provide societal umbrellas for remote communities
The Rotaract Club will purchase the initial seedlings as well as establish a vocational instruction program on the planting and maintenance of the trees.
