Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Soldotna, Alaska

Total Budget: $1,500

Areas of Focus: Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Food/Agriculture: General

Summary: In the spirit of Rotary Cares for Kids we will be creating Birthday Bags & Christmas Stockings for the food bank.

Background:

During the 2021-2022 grant cycle Soldotna Rotary Clubs President Charlene Tautest found out the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank has been handing out birthday bags to community members that aren't able to provide a birthday celebration to their children. The food bank has not been able to keep up with the amount needed which is why the Soldotna Rotary Club took on this project.

Why:

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank has not been able to keep up with the need for birthday bags in our community. The bags donated from the Soldotna Rotary Club last year were very appreciated and brought happiness to so many local families. Because of how well these bags did the club also donated Christmas stockings full of snacks and small toys to be handed out over the holiday season.

How:

Rotarians will gather together to fill the birthday bags and again to fill Christmas stockings and deliver each of them to the food bank.

The continuation of last years' project will encompass the Rotary Cares for Kids theme.

25 - 50 Birthday Bags & fillings ~ $750.00

25 - 50 Christmas Stockings & fillings ~ $750.00

Timeline:

Birthday bags will be purchased and filled in 1-2 with Rotarians and their families in one or two fellowship stuffing parties. Once stuffed the bags will be delivered to the Food Bank by a group of Rotarians.

Christmas Stockings will be purchased and filled at a stuffing party prior in late November to early December by Rotarians and their families. Once stuffed they will be delivered to be handed out to families that need extra Holiday cheer.

Rotary Member Engagement:

All of our club members will be encouraged to join our stuffing parties. These parties will be a chance for fellowship while helping local families get extra birthday and holiday cheer.
