This project will provide extensive business training and close to 600 microloans, starting as low as $25, to indigenous Lenca women and some men in Honduras' rural highlands known as the Lenca Corridor, so they can start or expand a small business and begin to lift themselves out of extreme poverty. It is estimated that 90,000 poor women in this region would benefit from microloans. During bi-weekly Grameen-style meetings with a loan officer, Rotary loan clients will receive education on business, human rights and health topics presented on brightly colored posters so that even illiterate clients can follow the presentations. This training will help the clients throughout the process of launching and growing their businesses. Because repaid money will go back into circulation to fund more loans, this one-time Rotary grant will be recycled for years and transform many lives. Real de Minas Rotary Club members will provide oversight and assistance in the design and implementation of the project, and members of the International partner clubs will make a site visit to review the progress of this project.

The Real de Minas Club of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, has distributed the grant money to the Adelante Foundation, to fund training and two cycles of microloans that will enable hundreds of impoverished Lenca women to start businesses. The first cycle of loan money has been distributed to clients, and many repaid loans have been reissued. The project is on target to be completed in December, 2013. The November 2013 Rotarian Magazine has a photo story describing the impact of these loans in individual lives. The Rotary Club of Poway-Scripps, USA, is honored to be the International Sponsor of this project, in partnership with many other USA Rotary Clubs and Districts.
